Falling in Public Places/ Ethics

Objective

To see how people would react if someone falls in a public place, would they help them? Laugh at them? Or just ignore them. In this project we’ll find out what actually happens.

Description

Our idea is going to really crowded places like the school’s kermesse and La Gourmetería and some of us will walk casual like everything is normal while we take the time and record the reaction.

Location

La Gourmetería near some chairs, in front of the movies.

Kermesse IT near the games, in the grass, sidewalk and the cafeteria.

Procedure

First, Iker would walk near a sidewalk and fall in the grass.

Then, Leo, would walk in front of everyone at the food stands and fall.

Sophi would also walk around the stands and fall near a tree.

I had to walk near the cafeteria and I stumbled and fell in the concrete (it was kind of painful).

Expected Results

What we thought or at least me was that they were not going to believe Iker’s fall because he rolled into the grass. With Leo I thought they would ask him if he was okay or check if he was not injured. With Sophi I expected that no one would help her because she fell in a not so crowded place. An in my case I thought they would not believe it was a real fall. But obviously we wanted everyone being helped.

Actual Results

Iker’s fall: When he fell, 2 guys immediately went to help him and asked him if he was okay! This was a nice and good result.

Leo: What happened with was quite mean, in the moment he touched the ground some girls just starred straight into him and started laughing and went away from there.

Sophi: Because she fell where no one was watching, nobody helped her. I think a man saw her and ignored her completely.

Marina: When I fell, like 4 people ran to help me! I was really impressed, they also helped me standing up (but nobody in my team took pictures or videos) .

The results were good and bad at the same time because we thought each of us was going to be helped, but just 2 of us got helped and the other 2 were ignored.
